Finding God through Jesus in Community
Our Vision
Create a safe space for people from varied religious and non-religious backgrounds to find God through Jesus in community.
We’re a group of people with a lot of questions and very few answers. We’re attempting to follow Jesus, as revealed in history and the Bible, in the best way we know how, and that’s led us out of the conventional church into an online community. We gather from around the globe, share ideas, ask lots of questions, take Communion together, and spend time in small groups talking about whatever people find interesting.
Questions!
Did I mention we ask a lot of questions? Here are some we’ve been pondering:
What do Jesus and modern Christianity have in common?
If the Bible was written by people, and sometimes the people even said they weren’t sure that what they were writing was from God, why do people think the Bible is infallible?
What if Jesus actually meant it when he said that all the law could be summed up with “love God and love people”?
How did a religion created by a homeless guy get to be so expensive to operate?
Who exactly is going to heaven? How do we know? Are we really so sure? Is that even the point?
A Statement of Faith?
With all of these questions, you might be asking what our statement of faith is. Simply put: we don’t have one. We’re sure that God loves people and that we are supposed to love God and love people. Beyond that, we work out the details in the community, we don’t always agree, and we’re OK with that.
Communion
Our group began as a quarterly meeting to take Communion together. Now, several years later, Communion is still central to our weekly gathering. Each of us may experience Communion differently, but these are some of the reasons we join together in this ritual:
Jesus said to "do this in remembrance of me" (Luke 22:19 and 1 Cor 11:24-25 NIV).
We see Communion as a way to somehow commune with Jesus, each other, and fellow followers of Christ globally and throughout history.
This is our sacred space to slow down, be at peace with each other, and take a moment to breathe in the love, joy, and peace of God.
Our elements of communion are as varied as our participants (Mt Dew, Coke, wine, beer, fruit juice, café, water, crackers, cookies, bread, apples, and brownies have all been used). So, feel free to partake with us using whatever you have available. Wherever you are in your faith journey, you're welcome to join with us in this holy and mysterious ritual. However, we won't be offended if you choose not to partake.
Giving
It’s also worth mentioning that we don’t pass an offering plate, nor do we have online giving. Our operating costs are practically nothing. So, we encourage everyone to be generous with other ministries in their community or around the globe. Sometimes we’ll let people know about someone in the community with a financial need or someone working on a cool ministry. Give or not, it's up to you, no pressure, no obligation, and no end of year tax forms.
